. this is a big, big debate on wednesday night. this is much bigger than the mccain-obama debate. >> today mitt romney traveled from boston to colorado where the debate will be held as a major player in romney's fund raiser confirmed to fox business that a few new york donors have backed away from financial commitments to the romney campaign and instead said they will spend their money to help the republicans hold on to the house of represents and pick up seats in the senate. the debates will be very important, said one person with knowledge of the matter. if romney does well, that money could come back. >>> new jersey's governor, chris christie the current front runner for the presidential nomination 2016 has decided his job is to state the obvious. >> it's a huge night. we've had a bad couple of weeks and we want to turn this around and if you want to turn it around you've got to perform on the stage. they try to say the president is not that good a debater or mitt romney is a little scared of the president. those are the professional consultants and politicians who get paid to spin you guys.

his debate performance. >> president obama could not defend his record. he offered no new ideas for how to fix the economy. i welcome the chance to share my vision for renewed prosperity and opportunity and i think it compared quite favorably to president obama's policy for big, trickle-down government. >> this past hour, mitt romney's son, josh, met with reporters in the swing state of virginia. it's part of a day-long effort the campaign is calling super saturday, with volunteers going door to door in battleground states. president obama has no public events today. he will head to california tomorrow, where he is expected to tout the new jobs number, 7.8%, and some big fund-raising numbers out today. president obama and the democrats raised $181 million in september, the highest single-month total so far. more on all these stories throughout the next two hours. >>> the campaign focus shifts a bit next week to the vice presidential nominees. paul ryan and joe biden will face off in their only debate next thursday night. paul ryan has just left his four-day debate camp. he is he

their first debate. today president obama will be campaigning in virginia and ohio. mitt romney is in virginia. governor romney boasted about his debate performance and told supporters he will take back the white house. but for the first time, romney backed away from his controversial remarks about the 47% of americans who don't pay federal income taxes. he was asked what he would have said if that came up in the debate. >> clearly, in a campaign with hundreds if not thousands of speeches and question and answer sessions, now and then you're going say something that doesn't come out right. in this case, i said something that's completely wrong. i absolutely believe, however, that my life has shown that i care about 100%. >> president obama campaigned in wisconsin, sharply criticizing romney's statements during the debate on tax cuts, education, and outsourcing as misleading to the middle class. the president had this to say about his opponent's plan for reducing the deficit. >> but i just want to make sure i got this straight. he'll get rid of regulations on wall street, but he's going to crac

the reviews from the debate has been so negative for president obama. and this just automatically changed the subject. at 8:30 yesterday morning we stopped talk thing about the debates and started talking about improvement in the jobless numbers >> yes. david with respect to the conspiracy theorists out there, mitt romney is not latched onto all threat rick. but could all this talk, this talk, could it damage him in the long run? i mean, in some ways all it does is just highlight the fact we're talking below 8%. >> absolutely, alex. i think that the romney campaign didn't respond to that because they don't want to be anywhere near it. even some conservatives quickly denounced those remarks, that tweet by jack welch. and i think that frankly for the obama administration those people who believe jack welch are not going to vote for president obama, anyway. and i think actually it's probably going to go away fairly quickly just because the romney campaign doesn't want to really touch this. >> the fact that he has to talking about mitt romney has to drop his line about the 8 plus percent from
